We are Chandley and Kaitlin – mothers, keepers of conscious birth and postpartum ways, and the creators of The Mother Well, an ethereal gathering place for women to receive well-curated birth and mothercare knowledge that is most commonly found behind a paywall.
Having traversed the distorted realms of modern birth and postpartum work for many years, we have chosen to now serve mothers as devoted birthkeepers – not gatekeepers. Thus, here at The Mother Well, what has most commonly been reserved for clients, students, private online spaces, and professionals will be given to all people as a gift.
The Mother Well is
a provider of nourishing knowledge re: conception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum wellness;
a creative source of inspiration for mothers and those who love them;
an apothecary filled with story medicine for the heart;
a keeper of recipes and prayers;
a place to fill your cup;
a destination.
Think limitless access to birth and postpartum content that is uncensored, in-depth, full spectrum, spirit-led, and complete, all of which is given without any required registration fees, course enrollments, return dates, or price tags whatsoever. The wisdom and stories are simply here for you to enjoy and contemplate as you discover what it means to be a real human, woman, and birthkeeper in the modern age.
Birth and midwifery are in all of our bones, and now is the perfect time to rekindle the fires of wisdom that have been kept dormant within us for centuries.
Women used to regularly share their birth and mothering wisdom at the well, in the red tent, and around the fire, generously and from lived experience, in the forms of story, song, and prayer. Modern wisdom sharing often involves exorbitant fees, contracts, certifications, and curricula if it is to be taken seriously. In a way, it seems that elders have been replaced by “experts,” and experts charge what they're worth before they unlock the gates behind which lies the knowledge we all used to know.
This is not the way of the embodied birthkeeper.
The Mother Well aims to break this system-serving spell and set birth and postpartum wisdom free, returning it to where it belongs – within the hands, minds, and hearts of all people. Birth was never meant to be commoditized, nor was motherhood. Rather, birth is meant to set us free, and motherhood is meant to keep us connected to spirit. Neither of these experiences should cost a dime to access. They should be protected, nurtured, and shared by those who know the way and are ready to serve.
Birth and her ways are not for sale.
The modern landscape of learning birth is scattered, censored, and costly, and it fails to provide a complete representation of the many birthing paths available to women and their families. We deserve to know everything about birth, including its history, how to give birth without medical personnel present, the sanctity of placentas, and how cesareans are performed. We also deserve to know the truth about what it's like to be a birth or postpartum “professional,” how to support a woman through surging waves of expansion, how to soothe an uneasy babe, and how to heal a prolapsed womb. Knowing birth in these ways isn't a business move, it's a survival move, for it is in our best interest to fearlessly know our bodies and the physiological designs that move them.
All people should know how to make way for the healthy unfoldment of birthing and postpartum integration because our collective thriving depends on it.
The content we share here at The Mother Well is created with the intention of supporting a complete remembrance of birth and postpartum wisdom, while also catalyzing the new era of motherhood; an era where true and conscious ways of birth and mothercare are common knowledge, and all people are in their power at all times. Birth is both the seed and root of all wellness for mothers and babies alike, and mothers themselves are, quite literally, the crux of civilization.
They deserve to have their thirst quenched.
And what is it that mothers thirst for? Truth, love, reverence, and connection, at the very least. Indeed, it is every mother’s birthright to know birth and to be thoroughly cared for during the childbearing years. Join us at The Mother Well, where the wellspring of generous knowledge sharing is unending.
All of our content is intentionally gifted so as to ensure access for all. If you’d like to support our mission of returning coherent childbearing wisdom to the people, we invite you to offer a monthly or annual gratitude exchange via subscription. Your paid subscription also makes it possible for Chandley and Kaitlin to continuously create these Substack posts while remaining present with their families and providing donation-based and gifted offerings to their communities.
Our initial inclination was to offer subscriptions for $2.50 per month and $15 annually, but Substack requires minimum subscription fees of $5 and $30, respectively. If you’d like to subscribe at this lower rate that we first had in mind, please use the button below to receive a 50% discount.
